He recently retired from private practice in Richmond, Virginia, but remains active in the specialty as an adjunct clinical professor in the Graduate Periodontics Clinic at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry and as a volunteer providing periodontal care at a local clinic serving the less fortunate. Beyond his Kramer award from the AAP Foundation, Richardson received both the Clinical Research Award and a Special Citation from the AAP in 2017 and is a Fellow of the Virginia Dental Association, American College of Dentists, and International College of Dentists. In addition to the AAP, he is a past president of both the Southern Academy of Periodontology and the Richmond Dental Society and also serves as an examiner for the American Board of Periodontology.
Richardson will be supported in his role as president by the Foundation’s new vice-president, Dr. David Yu, and secretary-treasurer, Dr. James G. Wilson, another former president of the American Academy of Periodontology, while Dr. Lisa Masters is serving her final year on the board as its past-president. Two new directors are also joining the board in 2026: Drs. Joanne Gaydos-Daniel and Guo-Hao “Alex” Lin, who have both been elected to their first three-year terms. In addition, Drs. Colin Richman and Irina Dragan have both been elected to second three-year terms. They are joined by Dr. Kristi M. Soileau, who has rejoined the Foundation Board as part of her role as president-elect of the AAP, having previously served as an elected director in 2019.
