Advocating for Perio
In October, the AAP’s leadership team attended the ADA’s House of Delegates Annual Session in Washington, D.C. On Saturday, Oct. 25, the AAP hosted a gathering of the Dental Specialty Group (DSG) where representatives from eight of the 12 dental specialties assembled to hear from ADA leadership and discuss relevant items of business, including the direction of future House of Delegates meetings, and advocating for the unique concerns of dental specialties at the federal and state levels.
The AAP delegation also met with representatives from other specialty groups, including the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), the American Association of Endodontists (AAE), the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists (ASDA), and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) to discuss potential collaborations for 2026 and beyond. Additionally, the AAP team met with the team from the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD).
On Sunday morning, the AAP’s ADA Liaison Committee hosted its annual breakfast for the ADA House of Delegates and Alternate Delegates, led by Acting Co-Chairs Dr. Brad Crump and Dr. Richard Nagy. Over the course of two hours, attendees reviewed and discussed ADA resolutions of interest to the specialty of periodontics, heard directly from the five candidates for ADA President-Elect, received an update from ADPAC representatives, and received a governmental update from AAP member, Dr. Leigh Kent.
The AAP, in conjunction with the ADA Liaison Committee, looks forward to continuing to interact with the ADA to ensure that the specialty of periodontics is well represented.
